E-readers, Tablets And Online Marketing

It seems that some electronic products manufacturers are considering the introduction of $99 tablets. But some of those may not be sold in the U.S. Still, I can’t help but wonder how a $99 tablet would affect social media marketing, mobile marketing, and e-book marketing.

As it stands now, anyone can write and publish their own e-book very inexpensively. With cheaper tablets, however, e-readers might disappear. Would that be a bad thing?

The reason a lot of consumers buy e-readers is because they really don’t want the additional functionality a tablet provides. But if they can get that additional functionality at the same price, or slightly more, than simple e-reading technology, would that put the e-reader out of the market? I think it could.

With no more e-readers, anyone interested in reading digital books would be forced to purchase a tablet. That would open up many more doors for small business owners to do more mobile and social media marketing, especially video marketing.

I’m not saying any of this will come to pass, but it could. And if it happens, then the next couple of years will be very interesting. It will be interesting to see how many small business owners take advantage of the marketing opportunities afforded by increased tablet usage. Have you started marketing to this marketing yet? If not, why not? If so, how has it worked for you?
